The Thoreau Community University marching band is a fine marching group that not only competes but marches for home and away games. The mascot, a cap topped philospher, was chosen due to the schools' name; which is in honor of the great American philosopher Henry David Thoreau. The ensemble has gotten many numerous awards and has played overseas in countries such as England and Switzerland, amoung others. The members of the ensemble also make up the TCU pep band, which is known as one of the top pep bands in Michigan.
