Show Title
Chess: The Game of War
Repertoire
A mixture of classic pieces and original music, "Chess" begins with the corps marching on split into two-- one in white uniforms, one in black, with two different drum majors.
They stage themselves like pieces on a chess board, the guard with flags bearing the symbol of chess pieces.
Mvt. I - The Tidings of War
The two sides have at it in an intense drum feature. You hear cannons and gunfire, swords clashing and cries of victory and anguish. Finally the brass pummels us with pieces of "Mars: The Bringer of War" weaved into an original score.
Mvt. II - The Brief Cease Fire
Intermixing electric violin and electric clarinet with heavy brass chords, we hear fain whisperings of almost familiar colonial war songs. Visually we see soldiers bandaged and beaten, dieing men, and medics rushing to try to keep the soldiers afloat.
Mvt. III - Winning a War
Startling us with the first gun shot since the cease-fire began-- and suddenly we're back into the fray. White pieces take black pieces and black pieces dominate white pieces. Is that the 1812 Overture that is heard through the dust of war?
Which side will will? Well, in Druid's style-- stay tuned on Finals night to find out!
Hope to see you on the battlefield!
