The Devil's Dances
Repertoire
The music is based off of Joseph Hellmesberger's "Danse Diabolique" and Gary Zieks "Dance Diabolique". The first movement creates a mysterious feeling in the audience as the mellophone solo is began and the hymn is carried across the wind section. Then the percussion takes over and creates a riveting frontline vs drumline showcase that woos the audience over until the winds join in and continue with Ziek's rendition. And then with Hellmesberger's piece continues the second half which is a much more energetic feel as it begins with a piccolo solo and creates a waltz environment but then disrupted by more of the piccolo's hymn only to end with powerful rhythms of the percussion and winds.
