The Irish Athletic Arts groups, The Druids, Shamrock Marching Band, and Sailor Indoor, have all finalized their Season 4 shows!
The Druids Drum & Bugle Corps will be presenting:
"Art Alive: A Musical Painting"
Art Alive is about what it's like to live inside a painting! Musical selections include:
Intro -Promenade from Pictures at an Exhibition by Mussorgsky;
The introduction/on-field running start warm up to the show.
Opener - "The Potential of a Blank Canvas", Flight of the Thunderbird by Richard Saucedo; This driving wind ensemble chart conveys the hopes an artist has when stepping up to a fresh, blank canvas. The corps, using uniform chrome horns, start separate, but slowly come together as the picture is formed, and the movement draws to it's climax.
Ballad - "A Completed Picture", Layers by Richard Saucedo;
In the ballad, the painter begins to add brush strokes to the canvas. Section by section, the chrome horns are replaced with colored ones-- pink trumpets, green mellos, light blue baritones, and soft yellow contras. Each section is featured, and at the end of the ballad, the painting is complete with color.
Closer - "Near Destruction, and the Building of Character", Babayaga's Hut, The Great Gate of Kiev by Mussorgsky;
In the closer, the painting is nearly ruined by a false stroke. In a rage, the painter begins to throw paint, attempting to hide the mistake. Each section is given a mix-matched color horn, no two horns with the same color. What will happen in the end? Will the painting be ruined forever or will the painter be able to make a mistake into the flaw that makes the painting not just a picture, but art?
The Shamrock Marching Band will proudly present:
"War on the Playground"
This silly show is about children pretending to be soliders in a war. Each section are dressed as different grades, and some are king, some are fighters, some are wizards, but they're all fighting for the same goal-- to be king of the hill!
Movement One: Fanfare for the Common Man
The "children" come marching on to toy drums and toy horns. The fighting soon begins afterward.
Movement Two: Sempre Fidelis
In the feature, every section gets to show off their prowess, the drumline "8th graders", the brass "7th graders", woodwind "6th graders", and guard "5th graders".
Movement Three: Theme from John Adams TV series
In the ballad, each grade is heavily beaten, and looks towards alliances to try and win the Hill.
Movement Four: 1812 Overture
When alliances don't hold up, the fate of the Hill lies in the hands of the Kings!
The Sailor Indoor Percussion unit will be presenting:
"Music to Die By"
Mvt. One: Tocatta and Fugue
Mvt. Two: Requiem
Mvt. Three: Little Fugue/Ode to Joy Minor
