Tonight the Druids brought the crowd to their feet at the Midwest Regional, taking the silver medal and breaking 60! As the scores were announced, many old and new fans of the corps screamed their throats hoarse as they watched Drum Majour David O'Connor accept the medal they played hard to earn.
Later, we caught up with Mr. O'Connor for his thoughts.
"It jus' keeps getting better," he comments, the residue of joyful tears still hanging in the sides of his eyes, "It's an emotional experience to conduct such excellence."
The Druids scored a 60.615, placing them in 6th place in the national rankings, and the middle of three in the 60's score bracket between the Maroon Dawgs and the Slatesmen.
While Mr. Orsborn could not be reached for comments, we were able to receive some exciting news from assistant director Albert Orsborn.
"I am pleased to announce the formation of the feeder group, the Shamrock Marching Band, which will be competing in FMA next season. It's a group for would-be members of the Druids to try out our programs and see how they like us-- also for our woodwind playing members/alumni of the corps to enjoy playing their home instrument. Oh, as you all know, we are an all male drum and bugle corps, but this band will accept women."
Exciting! Let's keep cheerin' on the boys in red and green all the way to Finals night!
