Thank you to all who participated in the inaugural Back Bay Blast! With so many fantastic performances, we will surely have to do one every season! For those of you who missed it, here’s the recap!
Debuts:
The Back Bay Blast! was the debut for 4 programs this season! Rocky Mountain Rumble rocked the house as the first group of the night, premiering their show “The Minotaur.” The Miracle Team followed after, premiering their show entitled “Rhythm Revolution,” which had the crowd moving to hits including “Uptown Funk,” “Seven Nation Army,” and “Can’t Stop the Feeling.” Ridge Valley was on next to debut their show, “Law of Murphy,” featuring their excellent brass and woodwinds, which took 3rd in their caption in Division III.
At the end of the night, Back Bay Combined Schools Marching Band took the field for their first competitive performance of all time with their show, “Down the Road.” Featuring “Oh What the Future Holds” by Fit For An Autopsy, “Down the Line” by Jacob Collier, “Future” by Paramore, and “Down de Road” by Andy Narell, Back Bay led us through a journey discussing the uncertainty of the future and how we use those people around us and their unique life experiences to help navigate our path “Down the Road.” Crowds were ecstatic to see Back Bay finally take the field and gave a roaring applause.
Division III:
Earning the bronze medal with a score of 50.975, Bikini Bottom Highschool Marching Band presented their program “Idk y we try.” With a strong visual score, they pushed through to the higher ranks of Division III!
Earning the silver medal with a score of 52.275, Crest Hill High School performed their show, “Into the woods.” With some of the cleanest and most challenging playing in Division III, the judges awarded them the highest Winds and Percussion scores for the division tonight!
Earning the gold medal with a score of 52.820, Rumbling Herd showcased an excellent performance with their program, “Synesthesia.” Featuring “Mr. Blue Sky,” “Yellow,” “Purple Rain,” and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” this colorful show enticed judges and the audience alike, utilizing multi-colored props to great effect! The visual and general effect judges just barely nudged Rumbling Herd into their champion status for Division III.
Division II:
With only two groups from Division II attending this season, Redwood HS Crimson Knights received the silver medal with a score of 56.135. Their show “Vertigo” jumped nearly 3 points from their previous show, showing their dedication to constantly improving.
Receiving the gold medal with a score of 64.450, Colts enamored the audience with an incredible visual display. The judges clearly agreed that the Colts deserved to be this season’s champion of the Back Bay Blast! Congratulations Colts!
Caption Awards:
This year, all three caption awards were given to Colts! The Lauren Johnson Award (Winds) was earned with a 6.295, the Nathan Picard Award (Percussion) was earned with a 6.285, and the Kate Paul Award (Color Guard) was earned with a 6.340. Congratulations to the Colts!
