Did someone say BAC?

I saw Boston at their Florida camp today and... my god.

Oh sure, they were pretty damn good last year. 12 to 6th is surely no joke. But this - what I saw today - this is now something entirely different. This is something that I've seen before. I've seen it and I recognize it as sure as I know my own face. I cannot mistake this feeling for anything other than what it most assuredly is. It is something I saw, and felt, back in 2012 with Crown; I saw and felt it again in '14 with TILT.

And this thing is - a Super Saiyan.

That's the only way I can explain it. Those corps in those years took that invisible step that upped their power to a level they had never achieved before. Maybe they didn't win it all, but that was not why we remember those shows. We remember because they all had crossed some invisible line and what came next from them was inevitable. Even if it took another season, even if it took two.

Boston has crossed that line. It's not even about where they place this year. It's about putting everyone else; the fans, DCI, and the top 3, on notice. They know how to go Super Saiyan now, and they are coming.

We've had our 'dark' shows. We've had our artsy shows. We've had 'clever', and minimalist and Fellini-esque and psychedelic and you name it shows. Prepare for Angry. Animal Farm in comparison was just sarcastic with a touch of upset. Wicked Games was dark with a touch of brooding.

What is coming this year is controlled and brutal anger. I know it because even Gino was surprised enough by it to raise an eyebrow and say out loud, "these kids are very good at doing angry".

Anyways, I'm calling it now. Top 4.

They'll fight it out with someone, possibly Cavs. Here's the Shamaliyan plot twist though. It's entirely too early to tell of course, but if they keep ramping up their power level at this same rate, they may very well leave 4th in their wake.

There, I said it. There is a definite possibility that, despite all I just said, that I might be underestimating them.

On a serious note, the top 6 or so is gonna be insanely competitive. It's gonna be another season for the ages I think. Think how close the top 4 was in 2015 and add 2 more corps to that mix

Yeah I'm totally with you on that. As for top 2, I have a slight feeling that BD might loose their "either 1st or 2nd" streak. I think that there's just way too much hype for other programs that they'll settle back for a season. It'll be close, but I think top 3 will be Crown and another corps, with BD in 3rd. What about everybody else?

If it happens it happems, but betting against BD is mever the good bet in my mind. Any show that's gonna beat them has to have the hype machine to another level AND be piss clean, and Vanguard couldn't even do it last year. They're gonna bring an original, new, show concept with stellar execution, and that's always a recipe for success

Their show theme seems a lot less interesting compared to last season. Also I really didn't like the weird featured brass ensemble THE ENTIRE SHOW last season from SCV. Was not surprised BD won again. Their ballad is probably the best thing that has happened to drum corps as a whole in 3+ years.

Boston has their show in the park tonight and often they show it online or it gets released so super excited about that. From what I could hear in the background from the online discussion the other night, WOW!

other sneak peaks: Phantoms show sounded good in their park show the other night tho not sure they move much. BD the short clip I heard didnt excite me all that much. Crown sounded great WEEKS ago so sure they are insane now. not seen a lot of other snip-its yet! HOWEVER we are one week away!!!

LOTS of FloMarching shows this season--pretty psyched about that!

I’ll be at the Detroit show next Thursday so I’ll be able to see Crown, Cavaliers, Bluecoats and Boston live. I’ll share my opinions on Friday.

I'm avoiding clips of shows to reserve the first impression for the tour premiere. I don't even know what all the corps are doing this season, which is unusual for me because I"m usually searching for information about their shows from the start of their camps. However, I must say that I'm dying to know, and it's taking a lot of resisting not to search for videos. One more week and the season begins. I’m extremely excited for the Midwestern championship in St. Louis at the Dome on July 15.

The Boston hype is real. I wanna see how they move and then sound on the move, but I honestly think the hornline sounded like a Jim Ott worthy hornline tonight, with the understanding that the cleanliness is where it is for this time of year

@cjbuckley1997 Agreed, that sound this early into the season, with some polishing and tightening up its going to be a big fight for top brass! (Although Crown's beast will take alot to be tamed haha). Phantom's brass has also shown significant improvements under their new brass staff, judging from their concert in the park. Then again, all of this is standstill playing so we wouldn't know until the season openers. Definitely going to buy the 2018 DCI cd when it comes out haha

I'll take crowns spread in brass versus Bluecoats spread in percussion, ouch... what a great first show! The only show that will take some time to grow on me was Blue Stars. They performed it great and had some neat things but I still just kept thinking, this is weird. Let's build something together.

Mandarins!! Not only a top 12er, but a show that's even higher up than 12th-10th? God I can't wait till August - Or maybe I wanna wait so it doesn't end so quickly. Mixed feelings lol.
