After another strong season with "Unfinished," the Lexington Legends will be back for more in Season 48! And now for our show!
"The Metamorphosis of Life"
The Metamorphosis of Life is a coming of age story. From the foolish optimism of youth, to the unbridled angst of teenage years, to the inner peace and understanding that comes with being an adult. We hope our musical selections reflect this idea.
Opener
Life is Happiness Indeed - Leonard Bernstein
The Best of All Possible Worlds - Leonard Bernstein
Battle Music - Leonard Bernstein
Auto-da-Fé - Leonard Bernstein
Middle Movement
Spooky Mormon Hell Dream - Matt Parker/Trey Stone
Rent - Jonathan Larson
Closer
Make our Garden Grow - Leonard Bernstein
Road to Paradise - Tatiana DeMaria
The opener takes music from the Bernstein operetta, Candide. At the beginning of Candide all is well in the world and the biggest problem anyone could imagine was that they might have a pimple (seriously, listen to the music).
The opener will take on a darker tone, although not dark in a sinister sense. It will be more of an angsty, self questioning sense. We thought that "Spooky Mormon Hell Dream" from The Book of Mormon and "Rent" from Rent were just light enough to not be disturbing, while still dark enough to get the point across.
In the closer, our hero has had a revelation - life is not always ok, and that is ok. The final lines of spoken dialogue from the character Candide read like this: "We won't live in harmony because there's no such in this world, nor should there be. We promise only to do our best and live out our lives, dear God that's all we can promise in truth." At the end of our rendition of "Make our Garden Grow," there will be a tag ending based on "Road to Paradise," a punk rock song by Tatiana DeMaria and her band, Tat.
