Does it surprise anyone that Phantom almost swept every caption to win this one? I wasn't sure if Madison or Glassmen would place 2nd. I didn't bet on Blue Stars 2010 - I'm sorry, that show bored me to tears - I forgot how much that show dragged on. Anyway, they did better in this competition than I thought they would :-)

Phantom and Glassmen automatically advance to finals.

Interesting result for sure! I'm glad Glassmen won drums, it seemed like percussion carried that show. Finals is already stacking up nicely!

wow those GE scores are crazy lol someone gave phantom a perfect score but someone else had phantom last place. also someone had Blue stars 1st while another had blue stars last. i still agree with the results. i also think Blue Stars might have scored a little too high.. but that's just my opinion. i agree that glassmen won percussion

To justify my scores, GE is one of the most subjective captions in the DCI scoring sheet and I couldn't find any reference sheets that would help guide the judging process. It's good that General Effect has the most number of judges, given that it is a very vague caption to judge. So even if a judge scores extremely differently from the rest, the other 3 judges' scores will even out the overall GE score, so the score difference won't impact the overall score heavily. As such I based my scores in relative to the performances in this round and according to what I feel is the most cohesive and "complete" show. I personally felt the package Phantom '12 presented was a complete one, seen in the props, movement, music/visual arrangement and show progression that completes the story arc and sticks to the theme/show title, hence the perfect score. If there were other shows that presented a more complete show or had elements that complemented the show better than the way Phantom did in this round, the scores would have been much different. Otherwise, I stand firmly with my judgement :)

On another note, if we are changing captions again this round I'd like to give music ensemble a go.

Oh yeah I'll prolly be asleep when the next round goes up but I'd love to take vis ensemble, and if one of your guys is gonna do that I'll take brass instead

just for the record, i wasn't taking a shot at anyone.. i just thought the differences in opinion were crazy phantom was 1st with a perfect score on one sheet.. and last (which is crazy all in itself) on another.. but this is just for fun and i have no problem with the perfect score you gave if that is the score you felt was necessary. perhaps my blue star score of 17.8 was a bit too low, but i felt that their show was a mess. i really couldn't get in to it,.. and I didn't get Houdini from it at all.. and I stand by that score too :))

No offence taken! Just had a hard time figuring out how to judge GE so I just needed to put it out there haha

Moving right along to the THIRD round :-) I decided to do a classic eastcoast rivalry with rivals The Cadets and Boston Crusaders and former eastcoast rival, Crossmen. Also, Blue Knights will compete.
