The Colonial Regiment will present its program titled A Colonial Christmas during its second season.
The Regiment will open this program with King William's March by Jeremiah Clarke. Originally composed for the harpsichord, our arrangers have brought this traditional English holiday March to our ensemble.
We will continue with the 16th century carol, Greensleeves. Made popular during the reign of King Henry VIII, this melody has grown its popularity worldwide.
Our third movement is a fanfare of Hark the Harold Angels Sing, popularly heard in the town of Williamsburg, VA during its colonial period.
The final piece is called Höken. This traditional Swedish carol was popular in modern day Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland where there was a large Swedish population until it was annexed by the Dutch.
