ASCoasters, welcome to DI. I too made the move. It really is mindboggling how groups are placed. There are finalists from last season's DII who are still DII.

Yeah I have no idea because I was purposely waiting to upgrade staff so that I wouldn't move to d1, my marching band was the same way last season.

Money on hand also affects what division you are in as well.

Well that is what I heard back when I first started. So maybe it was just a rumor back then that nobody really believed in.

Money on hand must have some effect. I purposely did not rehearse or buy staff for my B groups, hoping to further develope them in DIII, but they still moved up to DII.

I don't know it to be true or not but I have heard people say money on hand can help bump up a division

Interesting... I have never heard this theory before lol. This is literally the first time I have heard of it in 30 seasons of activity (this being my 30th season anniversary! :D)

Really? I thought that I had read it on here around season 20. Though who knows.

It makes sense to me though because you could just hoard up tons and tons of cash and then spend it all in one season and dominate Div. 3 with just staff because you have level 25 of all of them while the other div. 3 people might have like half of the staff bought.

Yah, I agree Jhawk. My B staff almost rivals my A groups, mind you quite a few levels below. The B groups were all finalists last season, bottom half. But because lf not practicing them til divisions were assigned left me a hard road to climb in DII now. I did read in another forum that money on hand is in the formula somehow though.

That's still kind of weird in my situation because I have the same amount of money as I had during preseason last time.

if money plays a role, I should be in division 1 this season lol

I always wanted to be in D1 anyway so I don't understand why people want to stay down in 2 or 3.

It's like a baseball player wanting to stay in the minor leagues when the goal is to play in the majors.
