At LA most people don't have cars, but enough have them so you can usually go places. I do wushu at UCLA and last year our 30-40 member club had 1 car total. Still can't walk anywhere that's not Westwood, but sometimes buses are acceptable.

I go to school in Milwaukee and only one of my friends has a car. Luckily a bunch of stuff is within walking distance. The only thing I really drive to now is the rock climbing gym that I go to every Wednesday, and for that we borrow a school van.
