Guard Scoring
September 3rd, 2012 10:30am
Now that this season essentially had two extra days of rehearsal because of the change in schedule, I'm concerned that Div I guard scores may actually reach 100 this season. Can the scoring system for guard be altered to make the scores go down somewhat or something?

I could just lop off a set amount of points, but then it would be a little weird going forward, looking back at the previous seasons' results.

Yeah unfortunately it would mean that historical scores might not be approached, but I think it would be better than having perfect score ties. I don't know what everyone else thinks lol

How about this.. as of right now, your scores do not get any worse. so for example if you score a perfect score in a sub caption 2 weeks before finals, you don't have to work on that subcaption anymore because it will not go down. This is not realistic because in real life if you don't keep practicing your score will suffer.
Change the subcaption scoring so that the score will suffer slightly every hour if it is not practiced. This should technically prevent 100's and scoring over perfect in captions

I've always thought it would be cool to try to incorporate what cire just said.

Is there a way to just do something like set the floor for every group five points lower? It might look odd for a season or two seeing such lower scores, but it would be better than groups missing finals with a 93 or something like that. Just my opinion. I'd rather look at slightly lower scores.

5 points? thats a bit drastic.. maybe 1 or 2 points at the most
The points don't matter for Finals.. placement does.. if every score is lowered by 5, you are still keeping the same placement, so the same groups are still missing out on finals.

Five may be too much, just kind of a general idea. I realize that placement won't change at all, you're right and I agree.

It probably is Vinny. Hey, records are meant to be broken, although if I wind up achieving a 100, I guess mine can't be! But I really think we need to do something about this. I may or may not be the only group to hit 100 but I'm guessing this will start happening next season as groups continue to improve unless something is done about this.

That's part of the reason I like lowering the floor five points. rather than one or two. There's more of a margin for "error", so to speak. We will be less likely to ever encounter this situation again in that scenario.

I appreciate that Alex fixed my incorrect placement all 3 nights after I kept hounding him about it all week, but really I think we need to lower the guard scoring. It's only a matter of time before multiple guards score perfect every season and then how would we declare a winner? We need to lower the guard scores.
