It was a tough season with lots of bumps in the road, but the Robinson Ram Band was able to keep working hard and end up with a top ten finish. However, with what might be a sixth place result, and by far the best in the school's history, this is no time to look back. We look to build upon our previous successes, and move into the top tier of groups in FMA. With that in mind, there will be a dramatic re-branding of the group. Our shows will no longer have plots and characters, but will be absolute marching band experiences. The first show in this new style will be called "Armenian Dances", and will draw music from the two masterworks with the same name by Alfred Reed

Season 13 was a huge step forward for the Lexington Legends Drum and Bugle Corps, as the group made it's first journey into the top ten. The group is not satisfied with top tens though, and we hope for Season 14 to bring tremendous improvement for the group. This will not be easy for the group, however; the Season 14 program will radically different from what the group is used to. We will be going with a lively, Latin/jazz type show, which will be called "On Fire!".

On Fire!
Caravan - Juan Tizol
MacArthur Park - Jimmy Webb
Malaguena - Ernesto Lecuona

We are very pleased with both of our shows, and hope you all like them too!

Here is the music:

Armenian Dances

The show begins with the opening fanfare from Armenian Dances Set 2 (Approximately 0:00-0:30), and the opener ends with material drawn from the frantic finale (approximately 6:52-9:17).

The lyrical middle movement features the Partridge's Song from Armenian Dances Set 1 (Approximately 2:20-4:35).

The finale will use the music from the finale of Armenian Dances Set 1 (Approximately 1:53-4:24)

On Fire!

The show opener will be a blazing rendition of Caravan, based most closely off of the Boston Brass arrangement. The group will have screamers for the first time, and they will be featured prominently at points during this movement (and the show in general).

The ballad will feature the music from MacArthur Park, and the arrangement we play will most closely resemble the Maynard Ferguson recording.

Malaguena is the closer, and that's all we can say about that. This is the style we most want to replicate.

Nice rep choices! Armenian Dances is certainly a favorite of mine. The English Horn part in the first one is fun to play.

Thanks!

I've always loved Armenian Dances, it's such a great piece. It has a really good tuba part too, which I can really get in to!

Me too! It really is a fun piece. That was the last piece I ever played in my high school years and it's always stuck with me.

It was the last piece of the first time I made an honor band so I stuck on me. Granted I was only 8th chair but being in top band was beyond anything I'd expected going into it (and true to form I dropped to 1st chair of the 3rd band the next year :P)
