They have a new sound, a new look, and a few new additions.
Nevada Mills, Indiana, August 12th, 2011 – The Nevada Mills Junior/Senior High School Department of Fine Arts has announced four new major partnerships including, Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, local Mill Valley State University, the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, and the Summit City Players. “Each of our new partners bring unique and interesting new possibilities to our emerging academy of fine arts.” says Superintendent of the Mill Valley School Corporation Jerrold Wheeler. “Both universities, the museum, and the Summit City Players will help sponsor guest speakers, hold workshops, and enhance our fine arts department.”
On the music side, Director of Bands Andrew Fultz is thrilled. “Both IPFW and Mill Valley State offer exceptional music programs with some of the most dedicated staffs, vast resources, and a great chance for our students to gain more insight to music after junior and senior high school.” IPFW and Mill Valley State professors as wells undergraduate and graduate students will staff the Marching Band, Winter Guard, and Winter Drumline programs as well as judge and aid in hosting local contests. “IPFW has also embarked on a mission to help maintain a new Drum Corps in the Summit City, the Summit City Sound Machine.” Fultz continues. “The Sound Machine will compete in the FMA, Colonial Association of Musical Arts for their mid-summer season and use Concordia High School's historic Zollner Field as its venue for shows and special performances. While R. Nelson Snider's Bowser Field will act as its practice grounds.” The sun seems to shine a little brighter in Nevada Mills and Fort Wayne with all of the potential opportunity.
As for the rest of the district, the Mill Valley School Corporation recently finished all of its major renovations including the Nevada Mills Downs (its football stadium) adding new stadium seating, beautiful Kentucky Bluegrass, and two state of the art press boxes, the Nevada Mills Barn (its Senior Gymnasium), as well as renovations to Nevada Mills Junior/Senior High School and Nevada Mills Elementary School. The renovated Downs will host the Land of 101 Lakes Parade of Champions on August 6th (spots still available), while the Barn will host both the Jimmerson Lake Winter Fantasy and the Beat of the Mill Valley Invitational on August 4th and 2nd respectively. The Fort Wayne Sound Machine will host the 1st ever Summit City Festival of Sound on August 10th at Zollner Stadium in Fort Wayne.
