Non-responsive Event Hosts
July 4th, 2010 3:57pm
I noticed that on the first day of competition (as well as on other days), some directors whose shows I applied to compete in never accepted any applications (I would click on their event page and it would show "0" attending groups). The problem is that it gyps people out of competitng who applied days ago because the director wouldn't bother accepting applications; which begs the question: "Why create a competition?" Would it be a bad suggestion that if the event host doesn't bother accepting applications by the date of the event, then the first groups to apply get spots in the show? Other directors shouldn't have to pay because of the host's negligence,
Does anyone else have another suggestion?

I think that sounds pretty reasonable.

That's a good idea, the only issue I have is that technically the host should not get the benefit of having people attend their show if they didn't take the time to confirm anyone. If you notice you're not being accepted, you could remove your app and look elsewhere.

Maybe if a show host has not accepted X% of applications (or % of total spots available) by the day before (or of), the competition is closed and entrants are declined? It would get people to accept at least some of the apps.

I could see how giving non-responsive hosts money for nothing would be unfair, so maybe they cuold incur some sort of penalty by giving them only a small percentage of money or maybe no money at all?

Turn it into a FMA hosted event?

I agree with bando. Turn it into an FMA event. Let it still happen, but the host not get any money. There are a lot of shows, but quite a few of them had hosts that didn't accept any applications. Having to scramble to find a different show could be difficult. Plus you never know if somebody is just waiting to the last second to see who they have to choose from. While it's a bad ticket sales strategy, I think some people might be doing that.

Yeah, I agree. It's already hard to find competitions after all the active player's competitions fill up. One of my groups hasn't even been accepted to one competition. It's hard to play the game when you can't. >_>

It's a small error in human error. There's no way around it, making it one of those annoyances that we'll just have to bear with.

Its sucks if you can't compete until prelims. Then you have no clue how you are going to pan out. I'm glad I was able to get into the ones I did.

At some point I will have a system that creates FMA sponsored regional events. These will most likely be first come first served. Unfortunately I was not able to get prepare this for the initial launch but I hope it will allow more groups into events in the future. These events will be quite large, perhaps 40 to 50 performing groups.

Hmm... kind of like a preview of the finals :D

I remember those! I could never seem to get into them because they would fill up before I got to them. Oh well.

I wouldn't be surprised if you're already working on this, but what about an e-mail notification 2-3 days before your show if it isn't filled yet. Some people might just need a reminded that they have to confirm applications since this isn't like the old system.

Also a good idea.

I am wondering if some of the people who hosted events assumed that it would fill up like it did in the FMA 1.0 and they didn't remember the application feature.

@Rocketfan
I think that's the most likely thing.
Maybe a very large reminder that comes up when you create an event saying that you MUST accept applications? I don't know if that already happens or not since I haven't had the money to make one yet. Working on that the the moment actually.
